The Lawnswood Singers have entertained many audiences over the years. Here is a selection of comments made about us... “I felt I must write to say thank you. Your choir was superb. I would certainly recommend the Lawnswood Singers in the future.” - Oulton Parish Church "Very atmospheric opening. Good phrasing. Good balance between the parts. Lovely rich tone. Tuning good throughout. Lovely ending... These pieces provided a good contrast and showed off the many strengths of the choir." - Adjudicator, Rothwell Competitive Music Festival "I would like to thank the Lawnswood Singers and pianist for an absolutely splendid evening of entertainment. The evening was a super way to begin Christmas celebrations. We enjoyed the varied content of the programme. We the audience were swept along with the warmth and enthusiasm of the choir." - St.Paul's Church, Shadwell "...a very big thank you to the Lawnswood Singers for a lovely afternoon. The music was excellent... and there was a lovely atmosphere in the hall." - Holy Trinity Church, Meanwood "Firm and crisp opening phrases. Excellent precision where chords move together... Flexible, expressive introduction. Foot-tapping swing when the melody came in. Words always relished. Blend always secure as was balance." - Adjudicator, Rothwell Competitive Music Festival "...The occasion was a great success, the hall was full and everyone enjoyed your programme immensely. We heard many people saying as they left that the concert had really put them in the Christmas mood - they loved it!" - Association of Secretaries, Leeds Branch "Please accept the very sincere thanks of the Roof Appeal Committee and, indeed, of St. Michael's members in the audience for a most delightful concert. I have heard many appreciative comments with regard to both the music and the readings. We are very grateful for the thoughtful planning and the hard work which resulted in such a pleasing programme.” - St Michael's Church, Headingley “On behalf of the Wednesday Evening Group, I would like to thank all the Lawnswood Singers very much for coming to sing to us.  The programme was very varied, with a good mixture of the familiar and not so familiar, and the interspersed readings very both amusing and interesting.  We did indeed have a very enjoyable evening” - Headingley St Columba United Reform Church “A very big ‘thank you’ to Brenda and all members of the Lawnswood Singers for providing us with some wonderful music, singing and funny readings at our 17th Charter Dinner” - Otley Chevin Inner Wheel Club “Before a large and appreciative audience the concert took the now traditional form of carols, seasonal readings and musical interludes. Bad weather had prevented the choir from holding a final rehearsal but this was not reflected in what was a fine performance. Their repertoire moved across several centuries including modern adaptations of older carols. The wide ranging styles included the reflective There is no Rose, the lively Welcome Yule, the delightful Angels Carol, the robust Gloucester Wassail, the rhythmically difficult Listen to the Sounds of Heaven, and the To Bethlehem Calypso. The Gospel Song type Jesus What a Wonderful Child was particularly impressive. All of the Carols showed good balance and blend while their diction was first rate throughout. They clearly benefited from the inspiring leadership of the energetic and talented Brenda Hawer. She even found time to give one of the readings and play a duet on the piano on the theme of Deck the Hall with Peter Reasbeck. In addition to this Peter accompanied the Choir sensitively and skilfully. He also demonstrated his considerable talents in his solo Christmas Night by Tchaikovsky.” - Ilkley Rotary Club "You are a truly talented group.  The singing, accompaniment, diction and presentation of the humorous readings was so skilled and lively.  Everyone thoroughly enjoyed such a professional performance with its diverse range of music.  What more can we say, except the most sincere thank you for entertaining us so well.” - St.Michael and St.Lawrence Church Fewston. “The concert was very well received.  The money raised from the event will go to two local charities.” - Ilkley Rotary Club. “I would just like to again offer you my sincere thanks for the glorious singing in my garden today. Everyone remarked upon it and some neighbours ‘followed the sound’ and joined the party” - Garden Party in aid of the British Heart Foundation.
